How about sitting at the dinner table, waiting for everyone to stop using their devices so you can start eating?

Or how about when lying in bed and waiting for your spouse to stop using the phone?

Or even while at the Masjid reading the Quran and getting interrupted with a message?

Disrupting all aspects of our lives, Media and Technology are everywhere! They are amongst the most powerful and far-reaching influences of our time! They exist in our public spaces and in our most private moments, shaping how we think, how we behave, and how we interact with each other and the world around us.

Bismillah….Assalamualaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barajatuh Everyone! My name is Mohammed Saleem. It’s my pleasure to introduce you to “Tech with Taqwa: Establishing a Family Media and Technology Strategy”, a self-paced online course to help families develop a thoughtful, faith-centered approach to media and technology—one that empowers our children to engage with these tools in a balanced and healthy way, while remaining grounded in their Muslim identity and their responsibility as khalifat al-ard—caretakers of Allah’s creation.

We live in a deeply technological culture—one that influences our identities, our responsibilities, the communities we belong to, and even our hopes and fears. For our children especially, media and technology play a significant role in shaping who they become. And without proper guidance and preparation, this influence can often be harmful.

In this course, we’ll explore how Islamic principles can guide family life in a digital world.

1. We’ll begin by grounding ourselves in the core Islamic values and priorities that shape parenting.
2. From there, we’ll examine the realities of the digital Muslim generation—their challenges, opportunities, and the ways media and technology influence faith, behavior, and identity.
3. You’ll be introduced to an Islamic parenting model for the digital age, one rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah
4. We’ll use this model to unpack real-life situations to understand how digital media impacts Muslim identity and family relationships
5. Throughout the course, you’ll learn practical, Islamically guided strategies to navigate technology and online spaces with confidence
6. You’ll also have the opportunity to reflect on your own family’s media habits and assess them in light of Islamic teachings and today’s digital realities.
7. InshaAllah, by the end, you’ll have the critical lens needed to develop a balanced, value-based family media and technology plan that supports healthy relationships and positions us for “wata ‘aawanu ‘alal birri wat taqwa”, helping each other in righteousness and piety!
