Wronged and Hurt: How Islam Guides Us Through Injustice

I am feeling wronged by someone.

Assalamualaikum wa Rahmatullah! Were you ever wronged by someone? Feeling wronged is not such a good feeling to have. In this post, we will discuss feeling wronged. We will explore what to say and do when someone wrongs us.

We may feel wronged by someone when they hurt us. They might lie to us or say bad things about us behind our backs. We may feel wronged by someone when they pretend to be our friend. They might steal from us or they might not respect us. We may feel wronged by someone when they make fun of us or bully us. And there are so many other reasons that may make us feel wronged by someone! What makes you feel you were wronged by someone?

What should we say when we feel wronged by someone? When we feel wronged by someone, we should seek Allah’s help by saying the du’a below. This dua is related to us in the Quran. It was made by the people of Musa who sought Allah’s help. They asked Him to protect them from Firaun and his people. They sought protection from Allah against one of the biggest bullies on earth by saying this du’a!

Allah says in the Qur’an (read):

عَلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوَكَّلۡنَا رَبَّنَا لَا تَجۡعَلۡنَا فِتۡنَةً۬ لِّلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

In Allah we have put our trust. Our Lord, do not make us victims of the oppressive people.

(Quran: Surah Yunus, 85)

We must put our trust in Allah (swt) and seek His help. For Allah (swt) says in the Quran:

Allah says in the Qur’an (read):

وَمَن يَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسْبُهُ

And whoever puts his trust in Allah, Allah will be enough for him.

(Quran: 65:3)

Allah (swt) responds to the prayer of the oppressed and to the prayer of people who are wronged. The Prophet (saw) has said:

So every time we feel wronged by someone, we should seek Allah’s protection. May Allah protect us from those who oppress and hurt others. May Allah not make us among those who oppress and hurt others. Remember, whenever you feel wronged by someone say

عَلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوَكَّلۡنَا رَبَّنَا لَا تَجۡعَلۡنَا فِتۡنَةً۬ لِّلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

In Allah we have put our trust. Our Lord, do not make us victims of the oppressive people!
